This is the second volume of Moonstruck , an adorable comic about Julie and Chet, two mythological creatures who work in a coffee shop. In volume two, Julie, who is a werewolf, now has a girlfriend, Selena, who is also a werewolf. Chet, the centaur, has found love with a minotaur who he is attempting to teach about the joys of 'Newpals', a parody of the online game Neopets , which was a real blast from the past.

Chet, Julie and their friends go to a frat party held by fairies, and anyone who drinks the fairy beer is trapped inside, leading to a complicated rescue plan.



Moonstruck is written by Grace Ellis (co-writer of Lumberjanes ) and illustrated by Shae Beagle and Kat Fajardo.



I have mixed feelings about this comic. On the one hand, the art is very cute and I love the variety of creatures, including gorgons, dragons, centaurs and a talking carnivorous plant. I liked the humour, with things like a fairy prince sitting on a throne of beer, and the advice columns with advice by various mythical celebrities. I also liked the quirkiness of the characters. On the other hand, I found the plot a little difficult to follow at times. I kept thinking I must have missed something, but apparently, other readers were also unsure of what was going on.



The most disappointing thing was that I hoped that Julie and Selena's relationship would be a sweet, lesbian romance but it actually seems to be not a very healthy relationship, with Selena coming across as quite needy and controlling. It's just not the fluff I was looking for.

Moonstruck Volume 2: Some Enchanted Evening still has pretty art, even if I found the story a bit of a letdown. Perhaps volume 3 will be better.
