I love trying new food and new restaurants. My other passions are Origami and Pokémon

Opened in North Adelaide following the success of its sister restaurant Red Chilli Asian Food Bar, Moonsoon Modern Asian Cuisine specialises in serving Vietnamese cuisine. Monsoon also offers a wide range of wines that are designed to complement the dishes that are offered here.

A dish that my father enjoys ordering when it is on the menu, their Som Tum (Green Papaya Salad) has a generous amount of shredded green papaya to give the dish its crisp texture and refreshing, slightly sour taste. The chilli and lime dressing also helped to bring out the flavour of the papaya while giving it a spicy hit that is not too hot.

One of the various dishes offered as the chef's specialties, the Bo Luc Loc (Sizzling Shaking Beef) had pieces of Scotch fillet which was cooked just right with a delightful peppery flavour. We were able to taste the cognac that was used in the sauce with the onions helping to add an extra element of texture.

The restaurant also offers a range of dishes in which your choice of ingredient is cooked in a sauce with various vegetables. The Chilli Lemongrass Chicken that we orderd had tender chicken and vegetables with the right amount of bite to them stir-fried in a chilli lemongrass sauce that had a delectable spicy flavour.

The snapper in the Ca Kho To (Caramelized Fish Hotpot) was cooked just right with its flavour enhanced by the slightly sweet caramel sauce. However, we were left with a sense of incomplete enjoyment because there were only a few pieces of fish. Take care when eating this dish: the dish is served to you piping hot and the snapper cutlets have quite a few bones in them.

The restaurant has a cosy, slightly formal ambience with the tables spaced a good distance apart from each other. Having tried most of the restaurants at North Adelaide, we are glad to find another one to add to our list.
