Moonrise Kingdom

Moonrise Kingdom, directed by Wes Anderson and starring a star studded cast of Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray and many, many more, is a magnificent film, with stunning cinematography, an incredible script, a wonderful soundtrack and superb acting and is a film definitely not to be missed.

This film is set on a rather populated island off the coast of New England in the 1960's and follows the story of a young boy and girl who have fallen in love, after finding that they each are able to relate to and help each other with their issues so well.

After keeping in touch through a series of letters and drawings for over a year, the young couple, Suzy and Sam, come to the conclusion that they must run away together, even just for a few days, in order to be together and figure out what to do with their individual problems. Sam is an excellent boy scout, who teaches Suzy about surviving in the wilderness and Suzy is a keen reader and music enthusiast, who brings her favourite books and her brother's record player, so the two of them may read of far off lands and listen to great music together.

For a while the young couple are living in their own world of bliss, but when Sam's scoutmaster finds him missing and Suzy's family can't find her either, a massive search party commences and the other boy scouts, who have never included Sam in their group, have decided to treat the couple as fugitives and take matters into their own hands, but fail to take into consideration that both Sam and Suzy aren't exactly how they initially seem to be.

After the couple are found and forbidden to see each other again, a plan is formed between the scouts to reunite the two "star crossed" lovers and take them somewhere where they can be together in peace, sparking a cat and mouse chase between the kids and adults, which ensures all sorts of mayhem, all this during the biggest storm to hit the area on record.

The quirkiness of Wes Anderson truly shines bright in this amazing film with the characterisation, direction and plot, which only Wes could bring to the table with his unique smartness and style and in my opinion Moonrise Kingdom is, definitely are real accomplishment and quite possibly his best film to date!

Moonrise Kingdom is rated PG for mild violence, sexual references and course language.
