Moonlight, movies, mmhmm
As a huge fan of watching movies at the cinema, I didn't think it could get any better than that; big screen, surround sound, popcorn etc. But then I went to the Moonlight Cinema at the Belvedere Amphitheatre, and now the normal cinemas just seem dull. You get the same big screen (actually, bigger) and quality of sound, but you get to experience it with beautiful fresh air. And forget popcorn – you can have a whole meal at the Moonlight Cinema!
Over summer and some of autumn, the Moonlight Cinema plays a movie each night. The movies on offer vary from new releases to old favourites. There is quite a good selection of movies screening, but it can be difficult to find the right movie on the right night! You can usually see the schedule for the whole month, so you can plan in advance.
The movies start at 8pm, so that it is dark enough, but you will want to arrive early to get a good position. There is no assigned seating!
Get comfortable You'll be sitting on the grass so you will want to take a picnic blanket and maybe even some cushions so you are more comfortable. Available at the theatre are bean beds, which are very comfortable and cost $9 to hire.
Bring food People usually set up their picnic baskets and have dinner before the movie. It works well to do this since people arrive early to get good seating anyway. There's hot food for sale at the back, so even if you don't bring food, you'll be convinced by the aroma of hot chips and other goodies!
Tickets Adult tickets are usually about $19, but members of Event Cinemas (Cinebuzz Members) get $10, which is actually cheaper than the normal cinema!
There are only a few more nights before this season of the Moonlight Cinema ends! So grab your friends, picnic blanket, some food and head over to the Moonlight Cinema!
