Opel Moonlight Cinema 2012/2013 @ Centennial Park

There's something about long, hot summer nights and lazing on a green lawn watching movies by moonlight under a canopy of stars. Summer means outdoor movies in most Australian capital cities, and one of Sydney's favourite outdoor movie experiences is the Moonlight Cinema in the scenic surrounds of Centennial Park. It all kicks off on Thursday 13 December and tickets are on sale now.

The 2012/2013 season features new movies and a new sponsor. Out with Ford Focus and in with Opel. Not that I suppose any of that matters to the movie-watching public. What matters is the movies, the moonlight and the beautiful Centennial Park. Now we know the park will be looking its best and we can guarantee that great movies will be up there on the big screen. The only thing we can't control is the weather. But hey, if the worst comes to the worst and your session is cancelled by Moonlight organisers due to bad weather, you'll be given a voucher to redeem on another night.

[ADVERT]The season's opening night will feature the Dustin Hoffman directed comedy Quartet starring Billy Connolly and British cinema stalwarts Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon and Tom Courtenay. With more than three months of movies you're bound to find something to tickle your cinematic tastebuds. For action aficionados there's Skyfall or Argo. Drama devotees will get their fix with Arbitrage, Flight or Hitchcock. For the kids there's Rise of the Guardians or Hotel Transylvania, and hot new releases will include The Hobbit and Les Miserables. There'll even be golden oldies like Top Gun and The Breakfast Club. See? Something for everyone.

Tickets are available online or at the on-site box office and there's regular pull-up-a-patch of grass seating or Gold Grass (love that name) for the movie goer who would like just a little more comfort, and is prepared to pay for it. Want something different for a girls' night out? Or how about a special birthday dinner for your special someone at one of the many excellent Paddington eateries followed by a movie with bean bed comfort thrown in. Whatever ticket package you choose you can take your own picnic or order food and drink from the on-site catering.
