Moonlight Cinema 2018/19 - Review

Coming from a family who loves to picnic, being invited to watch a movie outdoors was fabulous. Moonlight Cinema at Centennial Park is officially open for the 2018/19 summer season.

There is something about being outdoors, comfortable on a full-length beanbag and watching the latest movie of your choice. A movie starring Jennifer Lopez titled, Second Act was on screen for us. A rom-com, it was pleasant and easy to watch.

With the unusually cool Sydney summer we are experiencing, it was necessary to have a blanket on the night we attended. This is an outdoor event, so it is advisable to wear or take something warm. Also, there may be times when a session is cancelled due to adverse weather. Keep an eye on the forecast when you book, but the organisers do advise beforehand as well.

A session will only be cancelled if the weather poses a threat to staff and patrons. Should this happen to the session you booked, the ticket is transferable to another night. This is such a rare occurrence but for more about the weather policy, when and how you are notified, click here.

Located at the Belvedere Amphitheatre, cnr Carrington Dr and Broome Ave Paddington, there is parking within the park. The closest gate to the cinema is the Woollahra Gate entrance on Oxford Street. On busy nights you may have to park further away from the entrance, however, it is a pleasant walk through to the amphitheatre on a summer's night.

Unless you have booked a GoldGrass ticket, $35, it is a good idea to arrive early. Movies start screening at 8.30pm so arriving early means a better vantage point. You are able to hire a beanbag for $9 at the venue, but these are limited, you will have to be quick. With GoldGrass, you receive wait service and your beanbag is reserved for you in the best location. There is also, Connoisseur Lounge, a ticket guaranteeing you a beanbag in a prime location for $30.

From December to February gates open at 7.00pm. In March, they open at 6.30pm with the movie starting at 8.00pm

Food and drinks are available for purchase by card only at the venue. Moonlight Cinema is CASHLESS, so pre-book or feel free to bring along your own picnic goodies. Once the movie begins the food service stops, which is another good reason to arrive early and enjoy your dinner before the movie starts.

Enjoy summer and watch your favourite movies under the stars. To find where Moonlight Cinema is happening in your state, click here.
