Have you ever wondered what to do on a balmy evening? Have you ever wished you could enjoy a movie on the big screen while outside? Or have you wanted to see the latest flick in the comfort of cushions and picnic food? If so, the Opel Moonlight Cinema is for you. And there are only a couple of days left, so you should get in quick.

From 29 November a range of classic and new films have been shown on the large outdoor screen in the Botanic Park. People have taken loved ones on a romantic date, brought the kids for a cosy family outing or caught the latest blockbuster with their mates. Either way it's been the perfect thing to do on a warm summer evening.


The delightful outdoor setting allows you to relax on either your own brought-in cushions and blanket or you can rent a bean big or two from the Opel staff. If you are feeling the romantic vibe, you can revel in it by bringing your own picnic basket and wine, or you can enjoy a toasty meal from the hot food menu.

As previously mentioned, the cinema offers a wide range of movies. This wide range has been known to affect the whole movie experience, down to even what the people are wearing. When viewing cult-classic Rocky Horror Picture Show, the venue has been known to attract many cinema-goers dressed in classic movie themed costume, thus creating a unique and fun atmosphere. This year many of the current blockbusters have been enjoyed, such as Skyfall and The Hobbit, but they also offered oldies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Dirty Dancing. You can still catch Pitch Perfect, Gangster Squad and Roman Polanski: A Film Memoir.

The only thing that might be a downside is the mosquitoes, and possibly the bats that watch from the trees. I am sure both are easy to deal with when you can bring your own movie-watching gear or rent it all at the venue, nothing simpler than that.

Don't miss the last nights of Opel Moonlight Cinema this summer. It is sure to be something to remember, since it is not often you can watch a classic movie in the warm comfort of a summer night, cushioned on bean bags with some of your favourite munchies. If you cannot make it this season, be sure to write it down and make a note to visit it in November.
