I've just moved to Coffs Harbour and decided to do a little exploring to better acquaint myself with my new home. Moonee Beach Reserve is a great place to visit if you are visiting the Mid North Coast of NSW or one of the locals. Only 15 minutes drive north of Coffs Harbour, it's well worth the drive and is sure to offer something to suit almost everyone.
Now, I'm the kind of person who loves the outdoors so this little gem was a perfect find for me.You can laze by the creek under shady trees whilst reading your favourite book or waiting for the barbecue to cook. Or maybe a stroll up to the headland for a bit of exercise and some great photo opportunities. Another great way to explore the area is to kayak or canoe up the estuary, taking in the beautiful natural surroundings.
If your the surfing type (unfortunately, I'm yet to master the art) this is a popular spot with, what I'm told, some of the best breaks around the Coffs Harbour area. It does require a walk up to the headland though if you want to set yourself up in a prime position without paddling out for 15 minutes. Perhaps surfings not your thing? Never-mind because there are some great fishing spots around too. The Moonee Beach Reserve is where the creek meets the ocean and offers plenty of fishing opportunities, whether it be in the creek or on the beach. And if you're around the area between June and November, you may even spot a whale or two.
If you like the place enough (which I can guarantee you will), you can book yourself into the
Moonee Beach Caravan Park which is situated right on the waters edge and provides all the amenities you could possibly desire.
I love the scenery and the friendly locals of Moonee Beach so much that its become a regular spot for my morning walks. I hope you appreciate it as much as I do.
