While the name of the restaurant may suggest it only serves Thai food, actually also offers a surprisingly good range of Chinese food, notably what is claimed to be one of the best Peking Duck in Adelaide. Adults with kids will be glad to know that apart from having a children's menu, kids also get to eat free on Mondays and Tuesdays if you dine in on those days.

The portion size of the Salt and Pepper Soft Shell Crab might seem a bit small but the crabs were fried to golden brown with the salt and pepper having the degree of spice to lift the flavour of the crab. The crabs were served on a bed of what seemed like deep-fried noodles, which added a delightful crunchy element to the dish.

Although the name of the dish, Spicy Pork with Garlic, may sound like it could set your tongue on fire, the degree of spiciness is actually quite mild though it is still enough to lift the flavour of the pork. The pork slices were also cooked just right with the vegetables adding a bit of extra texture to the dish.

Their Smoked Duck was our first taste of a duck dish at Moon Thai and we were very happy with the quality of the dish. The tender duck was nicely set off by the crispy skin, and the smoky flavour made eating the dish an enjoyable experience. Accompanying the duck was some hoisin sauce the duck can be dipped in to give it more flavour.

Having enjoyed the Smoked Duck, we decided to visit the restaurant again to try the Peking Duck to see if it lives up to the claim of being the best Peking Duck in Adelaide. Moon Thai's Peking Duck is presented as a two-course meal. The first course consists of the familiar setting of roast duck served alongside Chinese pancakes, spring onions, cucumbers, carrots and Peking Duck sauce. To eat the dish, spread some sauce on a pancake, top it with the duck and your desired vegetables and then roll the pancake like a wrap. The roast duck was of the same quality as their Smoked Duck but we would have loved a few more pancakes.

For the second course, we chose to have the duck fried rice. The rice had a nice fluffy texture with the duck lending its savoury flavour to the dish. If you prefer, there is also the option of having the duck stir fried with noodles instead. The Peking Duck at Moon Thai was delicious but we still prefer that offered at Mings Palace because of the additional course of Duck Soup.

The Sizzling Hot Plate is one of the dishes in which you select your choice of meat to be cooked with your desired sauce. The tofu we chose as the "meat" ingredient had a nice firm texture and was complemented well by vegetables that still had a crunch in them. The sauce used for the dish helped to enhance the flavour of the dish without overwhelming the ingredients.

The restaurant looked very clean and well kept, with the white table cloths and solid wooden chairs giving the place a formal feel. The tables were spaced a good distance apart from each other. Parking spaces are available in the car park in front of the restaurant and a 10% discount is applied on takeaway orders over $30. We enjoyed 25% off our total bill by using our Entertainment Book vouchers.
