A Chinatown mid-autumn Moon Lantern Festival, this cultural event will be held at Chinatown Square, Cohen Place, Melbourne on Saturday 22 September 2018 from 4-10pm. There'll be stage performances, a little riddle guessing, just to change it up a bit, a lantern parade, and of course lion dancing we've come to associate with all Chinese festivals.

On the day, the Chinese Museum is admission free for you to explore and enjoy. The Moon Lantern Festival Program starts ahead of 22 Sep 2018 with free workshops for children at the Chinese Museum, but bookings are essential. Daily 2 hour sessions will run from 1-3pm on the weekends from 1-16 September 2018. It'll include Autumn Moon storytelling, making mooncake boxes, mooncake making demonstrations, lantern making with a mini-lantern parade.

Please note it's free admission for children attending the workshop and for Museum entry. Normal Museum admission fee applies to accompanying visitors including parents and guardians. ($11 adult/$9 concession/$26 family). Parent or guardian must stay on the premises during the workshop. Activities are run on rotation and are suitable for children aged 6 and up. This activity is available to school groups during September-October, and school groups can email edumanager@chinesemuseum.com.au for a quote.

Enjoy a lantern parade featuring the children parading their own creations around the Square. Food stalls, market stalls, free mooncakes and lanterns complete the picture, along with workshops that'll bring to your doorstep, the traditions of the Moon Lantern Festival. A delightful, colourful, cultural event, come to where it's all happening as the sun sets on Melbourne.
