Held from 11am till 8pm, this wonderful family-friendly community event will take place in an old textiles factory and feature Asian delicacies, cultural performances and mountains of delicious moon cakes!
The Moon Festival has been celebrated in China and surrounding parts of Asia since 1600 BCE. Traditionally the festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar when the full moon is high in the night sky. Originally a harvest celebration to worship the Mountain Gods after the harvest was completed, the festival is now a time for the gathering of family and friends, to give thanks and well wishes for health, peace, beauty, and good fortune.
Today the festival is celebrated with dragon and lion dances, traditional games, incense burning, lotus root, wine, and most iconically - scrumptious moon cakes!
Batman Market will be getting into the spirit of the Moon Festival with a tantalising line-up of Melbourne's finest Asian as well as multicultural food stalls, plus a spectacular showcase of multicultural performances, including traditional cultural performances and live music.
Come and immerse yourself in this age-old festival with a modern twist at Batman Market. Gates open at 11am.
