I just love it when we have so many 'happenings' on the Sunshine Coast to get fired up about, and especially when it becomes a long weekend of Aussie festivities. Firstly, we celebrate Australia Day on Friday 26 January 2018, then on Saturday 27 January we have the MooloolaBaBQ Festival, encompassing a true-blue Australian passion - the BBQ!

On the Saturday of the Australia Day weekend, The Wharf Mooloolaba precinct will come alive from 10.00 am in the morning in a celebration of everything the multi-cultural Australian community love about the great Australian way of life, namely, the BBQ - or is it a Braai? at the MooloolaBaBQ Festival. (Braai is pronounced 'bry', like 'cry' and is the South African word for 'barbecue').

To celebrate the Aussie love of firing up the barbie, the MooloolaBaBQ Festival are bringing together a fabulous community BBQ event incorporating a diverse selection of cultures, styles of cooking, flavours and cuts. There will be something to suit everybody's discerning tastes, from seafood to pork to beef to lamb - the degustation menu might be chard, grilled, smoked, roasted, on a spit or marinated, or somewhere in-between. A not-to-be-missed true Aussie culinary experience!

To add to the day's excitement, the MooloolaBaBQ Festival, together with the Australasian Barbecue Alliance , will be hosting a National Championship Series Barbecue Competition. Fourteen of the best Australian BBQ teams will be invited to compete for the Sunshine Coast BBQ Championship 2018, plus the opportunity to win $6,000 in cash and prizes! Visitors can experience first-hand how the competition food is created, but unfortunately will not be able to sample these fine dishes. The good news is that Cotton Tree Meats will be on site cooking in conjunction with the competitors so that you will get to sample the meats as each of the four protein hand-ins occur.

BBQ's Galore , Cotton Tree Meats and Jim Beam Premium Range Tasting will be on hand with live demonstrations for spectators' benefit.

MooloolaBaBQ Festival will be smoking up with food trucks and tents offering Texas BBQ lamb, pork, beef ribs, sliders, chip babs, German sausages plus food market stalls with pickles and meat rubs. Visit the BBQ Beer Garden for Craft beer and ciders from across the region. For your entertainmen, live music is being performed on the River Stage by The Floating Bridges, Brad Schultz , CRVKS , Alan Kelly Trio and Got you Covered.

A day filled with family fun - the MooloolaBaBQ Festival will have a petting zoo for the children, face painting, market stalls plus fireworks at 8.00pm to finish off a very memorable day.

MooloolaBaBQ Festival 2018 is a charity event to raise money for Give Me 5 For Kids with tickets available at Oztix here or at the gates for $15 (online is $17.35 which includes the booking fee); children under twelve have FREE entry. Get all fired up and reserve your tickets early to ensure you have something exciting to look forward to, come the Australia Day Weekend - your day is sure to sizzle!

The MooloolaBaBQ Festival is hosted by The Wharf Mooloolaba, The Dock Mooloolaba , The Helm, Friday Live at the Helm , Sunreef Diving , See Restaurant and The Wharf Tavern.
