One of the most exciting and most anticipated Christmas events of the year has to be the absolutely fabulous and festive
.
Organised by the
Mooloolaba Yacht Club , the Christmas Boat Parade is a Christmas lights display with a twinkling difference. Boats of every shape and size, jet skis and homes along the waterways, are all '
decked' out in their Christmas finery to participate in the Parade.
The is a FREE spectator event. Entry fees for the Christmas Boat Parade and house competition are donated to a nominated local charity, so everybody and anybody is encouraged to join in, by entering a boat - private or commercial - or their waterfront home or building. For those who prefer to participate from the side-lines (or in this case, water-lines), invite your family and friends to join you and grab a great vantage spot along the canals.
The official Course Map is still to be provided. I have it on good authority though that the Parade will commence from The Wharf, an awesome viewing spot. Boats will then head to Elanora Avenue; Main Canal; Kawana Waters Hotel and on to La Balsa Park, before heading back to The Wharf for the finish. In previous years the best and most popular viewing locations were at:
The '
Best Dressed' Boat Competition is open to all participants - private boats, commercial boats and houses/buildings - with amazing prizes up for grabs for the top three
Best Dressed. Entry to these categories will be opening soon,
please follow this highlighted link for important details and information .
Safety Information for Water Craft participants -
*Safety Tip 1 - As there will be a number of small craft participating in the Parade, please be aware of all craft in your immediate surrounds.
*Safety Tip 2 - There is a tight corner at Kawana (at the end of the main canal) and caution needs to be observed with incoming and outgoing vessels. Craft speed may need to be varied to ensure safe passing.
For enquiries or questions on the night of the event, please contact the MYC office on 0413 227 013 or via Channel VHF 77.
The Water Police will be present during the Parade, so please ensure to observe -
The rules of the 'road' and passing boats
Safe handling of your boat
Please ensure that there are sufficient life jackets for all on board
Navigation lights to be used
NO drinking and driving!
In the event that the Water Police or Coast Guard depart the Parade's course due to operational reasons, please continue to follow the Mooloolaba Yacht Club's lead vessel.
'
Deck the hulls with boughs of holly' or pack a picnic and choose your viewing location for a fabulous Christmas family night out, waterside.
