The next magical Christmas must-do event on my social calendar is the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat parade , organised by the Mooloolaba Yacht Club. This year marks the 15th Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade, a fabulously festive event with stunningly festooned locally-owned boats, lighting up the Mooloolah River, alongside beautifully decorated homes.

The annual Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade is truly a magical event and well worth making the effort to attend. Last year we secured ourselves a dining table at The Dock at the Wharf - a brand new restaurant at the time - and had picture-framed views of the flotilla of boats, as they glided past, decked out in their Christmas finery.

You can only imagine after fourteen years, how creative and innovative the boaties and home decorators are becoming, ensuring that spectators have a breathtakingly memorable night.

The Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade is a FREE spectator event, with entrants in the parade making a donation to the Charity of Choice, which for 2018 is Rosies, Friends on the Street. Rosies reaches out to those in need; to those who have been abandoned and/or socially isolated within our communities. Rosies conducts more than two hundred and twenty outreaches a month across eleven branches in Queensland.

Rosies, Friends on the Street has been up and running on the Sunshine Coast in Caloundra since 2000, giving support and friendship to those in need. They meet on Tuesday and Friday evenings at Felicity Park, Bulcock Street in Caloundra and on the first Saturday of the month at Happy Valley, Bulcock Beach in Caloundra.

The Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade commences at The Wharf Mooloolaba at 6.30pm and travels from The Wharf to Mooloolah Island, down to La Balsa Park, back up the river towards Mooloolaba Wharf and turns into Kawana Canal down to Lawries Marina. The Parade then returns to the river and travels back down to La Balsa Park for second viewings by Christmas cheerers along the banks and then back to The Wharf Mooloolaba for judging.

There are fabulous prizes for the top three Best Dressed Boats and Best Dressed Houses/Buildings in the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade and entries are open to everybody. If you are keen on putting your best Christmas boatie outfit forward, please click here for a Parade Boat Entry Form. Entry donations are either $30 (minimum); $50 or $100 with all entry fees being donated to Rosie's Charity on the Sunshine Coast.

If you are in the enviable position to live anywhere along the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade route and would love to enter your Christmassy-bejewelled home/building, please click here for a Parade House/Building Entry Form. Entry donations are $30; $50 or $100, with all entry fees also being given to Rosie's Charity on the Sunshine Coast.

There are some superb viewing locations, along the Mooloolah River, for families to set up early in the day - bring your picnic hampers and picnic rugs and settle in for the ultimate Christmas event, the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade, along the banks of the river.

Alternatively, The Wharf Mooloolaba has an array of new restaurants and eateries that have recently opened, spoil yourself and book yourself a table overlooking the water. I personally can recommend The Dock at the Wharf , a spirited venue and See Restaurant , offering modern Australian cuisine and the freshest seafood - both of which have panoramic views of the Mooloolah River.

The Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade is truly a fun, exciting and absolutely fabulous family event to celebrate the upcoming arrival of Santa. Make sure you diarise the date, Saturday 22 December, and I'm keeping my viewing spot a secret ... until next year!
