Delicious chemical free honey
I met Howard and Carole at the Wamuran markets where they sell their delicious honey. They have an interesting display on the back of their truck displaying their products. Their many regular customers know that's where to find them or on the other Saturday mornings between 9 am till 11 am at their home.
25 years ago Howard bought his son a beehive because of his interest in bees. But like many teenagers, the interest was fleeting so dad was left with a hive. It was an instant love affair, which persists today. He now has approximately 30 hives. With Carole's help, he works full time with his bees. It's a love affair says, Carole.
He has six varieties of honey as well as the Kiwi favourite, Creamed honey. They also leading suppliers of chemical-free wax from their bees. The wax has a variety of uses. Among them are face cream, hand cream, furniture polish and food wraps. The honey flavours are Raspberries, Ironbark, Lilly Pilly, Box Brush and Maccadamas.
Howard checks all his hives every two weeks and if they are sick he puts a peeled banana in their hive and then all is well again, Who knew that! Being a beekeeper is a fascinating job, one Howard loves with a passion. If anyone wants help with setting up beehives Howard is the man to talk to.
