Dine-in art deco style and go back in time at these stunning tea rooms.

High tea is all the rage as it evokes the love of tasty homemade scones and cakes and a good old fashioned, brewed tea. And tea has come a long way from just Earl Grey. There is a huge variety of tea blends tea now that give off the most heavenly scents. It is really quite hard to select the next flavour to taste.

On top of the fact that I do not know anyone who does not like high tea, I have never encountered anyone who does not love sharing it in an old-world environment. And if you are an art deco fanatic like I am, there is only one place to head to for this very special high tea.

To enjoy this special ambience head straight for Monty's Tea Room at Mont De Lancey Historic Homestead.

You definitely need to make a day of this escape from the city, as you will want to tour the blacksmith and the historic homestead, the museum and the art gallery and see the lovely crafts on special in the shops. I wonder if the blacksmith would roast some marshmallows for us.

If you are after a good walk, check the steps you have taken on your wrist gadget, and you will realise you have covered your k's for the day - so you have room for a treat. After all that, you can sate your built-up appetite with a stop in the tea rooms.

These tea rooms are the brainchild of a husband-wife team and the head chef is their son. It is a brilliant family affair of the highest class. It is a light, bright and warm and toasty cafe, with a grand menu. They are often booked out by groups, so make sure you phone ahead to make sure they are not full.

However, they do have some outside seating, and you can take your food away to lovely spots and tables and gazebos spread around the spacious grounds. It makes for a lovely picnic as they have light lunches as well.

You are surrounded by stunning art deco statues, artwork, furniture. It creates a lovely ambience. You could organise a 1920's dress-up party and really enjoy the environment.

They also have beautiful old books and magazines of the day to enjoy. So just do it, you will not regret the trip to the lovely hills of outer eastern Melbourne.
