Having a baby is a joyful experience but a newborn needs a lot of help, especially from mum. A newborn's mother has everything a baby needs – arms to hold, breasts with milk to feed and comfort, a human body to share and a person to protect and be there. But sometimes, the mother/newborn bonding needs a bit help to flourish.

Childbirth Education Association (CEA) is facilitating relaxed monthly gatherings for pregnant women and parents of babies from birth to eighteen months. CEA Darwin is a community based not for profit organisation which has been run by a volunteer committee since 1983. CEA provides information and support for women and their families and promotes self-reliance and confidence in pregnancy, birth and parenting. CEA is also a key community advocate for birthing services and supports all women to have access to quality care.

The monthly morning tea and nurturing newborn program by CEA provides a supportive environment to explore gentle parenting techniques with a focus on how to meet your baby's needs while still looking after yourself.

All sessions are held at the Nightcliff Community Centre on 6/18 Bauhinia St in Nightcliff from 10am until noon. The schedules are as follows: baby wearing with demonstration of different carriers and slings on Tuesday 28 March; gentle toilet training and elimination communication on Tuesday 30 May; travelling with infants and toddlers on Tuesday 27 June; different cloth nappy options and how they work on Tuesday 25 July; toddler sleep and settling on Tuesday 29 August; infant sleep and mini reflexology sessions for mums on Tuesday 26 September; baby-led weaning and first foods on Tuesday 31 October; and self-care for mums on Tuesday 28 November. All sessions are free of charge.

Beside monthly morning tea, CEA also offers birth preparation and active birth workshops, pregnancy yoga, a library and general resources which can help women gain the knowledge and confidence to choose the best option for their family.

To get all these benefits, you have to join CEA and the membership is free. With CEA membership you can get access to the library which includes a comprehensive selection of research-based books, publications and DVDs on pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and parenting. You can also be updated with their Quarterly Childbirth Chatter newsletter. CEA will also send you an invitation to all CEA events and sessions.
