In the Redlands, in Queensland's South East Corner, we are blessed to live by both the beautiful waters of Moreton Bay, surrounded by clusters of bushland which provide a sanctuary for our wildlife.

Our suburban parks are also often picturesque, providing greenery for our fauna, and space for our children to play sport and learn socialisation skills with other kiddies. Some reserves even include designated off-leash areas for dogs.

One of the most functional parks I have found in the Redlands is one that caters for all ages and yet retains substantial vegetation to encourage Bush turkeys, Magpies, Ducks and the occasional Wallaby to make an appearance. Montgomery Drive Park in Wellington Point, is a large, flat green area with enough space to allow ball games.

It also has Outdoor Gym facilities, organised in a trail, which have been designed to develop strength, cardio, mobility and agility. Sounds all a bit exhausting, doesn't it? The callisthenics equipment includes a balance beam, bench, stretch station, pull up bar, and parallel bars. Just allow me a few moments to rest ...

Our young people are well catered for with a variety of playground equipment covered by Sunshade.

There is a bubbler, which includes a water bowl for dogs, as well as bathroom facilities, and covered seating.

You know what else makes this park so special? A newly installed Community Library where you can select a book, read a book, and leave a book. Yes, Ye Olde Community Library. How good does sitting in the shade reading a book whilst the little ones exhaust themselves sound?

There are also numerous bushwalking trails that skirt around this parkland with views of Hilliards Creek.

You know, you often don't have to travel far to find hidden gems like Montgomery Drive Park, and now is a great time of year to get out and explore.
