Australia's oldest continuously active artists' community, Montsalvat, is a peaceful and beautiful haven for local and international artists, and for anyone who wishes to enjoy the grounds. The gardens have unique sculptures, freely roaming geese, two lovely ponds, majestic trees, and a magnificent European style architecture, all of which inspires as you stroll or sit and enjoy the surrounds.
Montsalvat is an idyllic setting to celebrate any occasion, accommodating 130 guests in the Great Hall or Upper Gallery or 200 by the Ornamental Pool. The grounds also have a picturesque bluestone chapel, perfect for an intimate wedding.
Not only a venue for celebrations, but there is also an active artists' community where art is made and taught, a gallery for exhibitions, and regular festivals, concerts, workshops and events. The latest event on the calendar allows patrons to enjoy Montsalvat in the evening, with a dinner in the Grand Hall, accompanied by a live musical performance as a fundraiser for the fabulous site.
The inaugural fundraising dinner event,
, welcomed a full house of Italian opera enthusiasts. The evening commenced with wine, beer, and sparkling, and sharing plates of antipasto to enjoy whilst striking up a conversation with neighbouring diners. The atmosphere with long tables, seating 20, are reminiscent of Italian style family dinners with jovial conversations where food is passed and shared around the table.
The first course is followed by live performances of Claudio Monteverdi's love arias. Solo and duet vocal, and harpsichord, pieces will leave you enchanted by the talents of the Italian composer and musician; the most important developer of opera.
The main meal, prepared by celebrity chef, Stefano de Pieri, is minestrone with crusty bread. Those with dietary requirements are accommodated if given advanced notice; a gluten-free lentil and vegetable soup as a substitute for this evening. The meal follows with a second musical set, a third course of alternating serves of flourless orange cake and chocolate tart, and a final musical set to end a delightful evening.
