Montania is a small café, bar and restaurant nestled amongst a strip of shops at Mountain Gate Shopping Centre in Ferntree Gully. They're open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there's ample parking.
The menu is varied but safe: pasta, risotto, fish, meat, pizza, etc. and the prices are reasonable ($15–$30). It's little wonder that this place fills fast – my guess is with regulars.
What really sets this place apart is its excellent customer service (and they have the Australian Achiever Awards to prove it). I was greeted and seated straight away, able to order my drink as I sat (skinny cappuccino – wasn't bad), and given just the right amount of time to browse the menu. I even got ice with my water!
Never had a bad meal at Montania, (grandchildren call it Montana). The staff are wonderful and after so many delicious meals and coffees enjoyed there, they are welcoming us as old friends or family. My grandsons both have autism and going out can be a time for a melt down, but they have the choice and thankfully it is always Montania. When they were younger they received colour pencils and a colouring in picture, not promotional! Now the fire in the kitchen is enough to keep them entertained as it is safe and friendly and the food delicious, plenty of it and yes we can sit outside and watch the world go by with our furry friends.
Love the coffee (soy) and being brought fresh cool water before I order is something I really judge as welcoming.
I am an organiser of the Meetup group called The Melbourne Coffee Lovers and with over 750 members it will be a destination soon.
Besides free and easy parking I also love visiting the pets in the Pet Shop a few metres away.
