Introducing a new university class of monsters!


Who would think monsters who go to university to graduate to become 'scarers' is all the rage. That's right. The prequel to Monsters Inc has Mike Wazowski, (voice of Billy Crystal) Sully Sullivan (voice of John Goodman) and a cast of monsters of all shapes and sizes competing to become the best 'scarers'. The job of these 'scarers' is to visit human children and frighten the living daylights out of them. Throw in flying centipede Dean Hardscrabble (voice of Helen Mirren), whose sheer presence terrifies students, and you have an entertaining, colourful, humorous movie that children and adults will adore.


After visiting the 'scarer' factory on a school trip as a younger student, Monster Mike knew this was his calling after a 'scarer' gave him a cap as encouragement that he had 'something special'. Monster Sully was born into a well known 'scarer' family. Following in his father's footsteps, he was convinced graduating would be a breeze. Mike is dedicated, passionate, and buries himself in his text books, studying like crazy to learn all the 'scaring' techniques. Sullivan is lazy, never studies and feeds off the reputation of his family's name who are well known around the campus as top in their field.





The story centres around these two characters, who when meeting do not see 'eye to eye' so to speak. Mike, a small green one-eyed cyclops looking monster doesn't look scary, whereas Sully is gifted with all the traits and ability to graduate as a 'scarer'. Confident and brash, Sully keeps reminding Mike he's not in the same league and the rivalry between them makes Mike more determined. When these two enemies are ultimately thrown out of the program during an altercation, Mike, who won't give up on his dream, wants to prove to the Dean that she is wrong about him. Just when he thought it was all over a last minute twist from Sully sets the pace of what will be a turning point for both these monsters.



Monster Mike builds a team with unpopular out-cast monsters - as one thing this monster has over the others, is his drive to prove that he is scary enough to graduate. It's the geeks versus the popular monsters, popular fraternity clubs versus the unpopular, all reminiscent of what you would find on a university campus. Being the centre of school pranks and constant taunting, along with being reminded they'll never be 'scarers', is what drives these unique monsters harder to prove their worth.



The messages in this movie are simple. Follow your dreams, never give up, don't let others tell you you're no good, achieve as a team, and value friendship, dedication, drive, passion. Even when you've tried everything and you still don't succeed, there is something around the corner.

There is also more fun to be had with the kids after the movie. You can enrol them into Monsters University online and get them an ID card, enrol them in courses, sports and even buy merchandise.



Overall, a wonderful feel good movie for the family. Children will be drawn into all the different monster characters. The 3D screening with glasses is also a novelty and exciting for children.
