Want to drop the kids off and go have a shop? Want to sit down and have a cup of coffee while your kids go and play in a jungle-like playground? Planning your child's birthday party and lacking inspiration? Well, Monkey Mania in Dockland's Harbour Town Shopping Centre may just be your answer to all of the above!

Located on level two, 120 Studio Lane of the outdoor shopping complex in the Docklands, Monkey Mania is an indoor play centre as well as hosting children's parties. For a day visit, there is a shop and drop option where children can be left in the centre (as long as they are toilet trained) and parents are welcome to shop for a few hours. The children left in the centre wear a coloured vest to identify them as being there without parents, and management must be notified as to any food requirements or allergies.

Entry pricing is very reasonable for a day visit. Children under two get in for free, and parents pay around $3 which includes a complimentary tea or coffee voucher per adult. Memberships can be purchased which allows entry all year round for children.

As for parties, there are four rooms to choose from: the pirate room, which features a large pirate ship as a table and stools for the children to sit around; the hot air balloon room, which has a large hot air balloon protruding from the table; the space room with a table shaped as a spaceship; and the enchanted room with a large toadstool table and mushroom seats. The hot air balloon room and the space ship have a shared double door which can be opened up to accommodate for large parties or for twins.

The basic party package includes the room for 1 hour, a host or hostess to serve food and provide entertainment for the children, a dance in the disco room including a visit from a large but friendly monkey, as well as basic party snack food such as fairy bread and chips.

In terms of pricing, these parties can get rather expensive. The package outlined above only includes six children, and there is an additional fee for each child after that. For hot food to be included in the package there is an additional cost, as there is for any food platters for the adults. An ice-cream cake is included in each package with candles, or there is the option to bring along a cake of your own.

These parties can be what you make of them – very much dependant on individual budgets. Weighing up the pros and cons of paying extra so you don't have to do the cleaning up or hosting, or saving that cash and having a party at home.

Either way, Monkey Mania is well worth a day visit. Gather up your friends, send the kids onto the playground and sit back with a coffee and have a relaxing catch up. It's a win-win for all.
