Monica's café is another local eatery reflecting the community's enthusiasm for health and well-being. Here, the focus is on local, and organic food. They also serve fair-trade coffee by Tim Adams and Molinaro.
Inside is a lighthearted, light-filled space with welcoming hosts, and efficient, friendly service. The lower floor is a spacious, uncluttered area arranged with single or larger tables for social gatherings. If you prefer the open air, the outdoor area in the front of the cafe (seen in the first top photo) is sheltered by big umbrellas, and shady.
On a recent visit to Monica's, on a cold, foggy morning, the cafe was already bustling at around 7am. I was deciding whether to order a turmeric latte, or coffee, and looked at the menu, while friendly conversations mingled around me. Meal options looked appealing, affordably priced, and there were vegan and gluten free choices. I chose a flat white, and a light, simple breakfast of avocado smash, and haloumi on sourdough, garnished with cherry tomatoes and peppery rocket.
I chose to sit in the upstairs lounge, which is bright, casual and inviting. Mirrors on the wall reflect light streaming through windows, and old botanical prints bring a blank wall to life, bringing nature indoors. Big leather comfortable couches are there for lounging, and the background music is relaxing.
