A light hearted cafe in the heart of Maleny
Maleny Village is looking charming this season with maple trees looking autumnal and gorgeous through its centre on Maple St. The atmosphere is laid-back and friendly, just like the local cafes there.

Monicas cafe

Monica's café is another local eatery reflecting the community's enthusiasm for health and well-being. Here, the focus is on local, and organic food. They also serve fair-trade coffee by Tim Adams and Molinaro.

Entrance to Monica's

Inside is a lighthearted, light-filled space with welcoming hosts, and efficient, friendly service. The lower floor is a spacious, uncluttered area arranged with single or larger tables for social gatherings. If you prefer the open air, the outdoor area in the front of the cafe (seen in the first top photo) is sheltered by big umbrellas, and shady.

On a recent visit to Monica's, on a cold, foggy morning, the cafe was already bustling at around 7am. I was deciding whether to order a turmeric latte, or coffee, and looked at the menu, while friendly conversations mingled around me. Meal options looked appealing, affordably priced, and there were vegan and gluten free choices. I chose a flat white, and a light, simple breakfast of avocado smash, and haloumi on sourdough, garnished with cherry tomatoes and peppery rocket.

Lovely lounge upstairs

I chose to sit in the upstairs lounge, which is bright, casual and inviting. Mirrors on the wall reflect light streaming through windows, and old botanical prints bring a blank wall to life, bringing nature indoors. Big leather comfortable couches are there for lounging, and the background music is relaxing.

Plants, magazines and menus

If plants are your thing, like me, the interior has an eclectic collection of plants standing in mismatched vessels, which are healthy (I really don't like seeing dried, uncared for plants in cafes).

Avocado and haloumi on toast. Yum!

My meal arrived with a smile. It looked well presented, tasty, and made with fresh ingredients. My coffee was lovely, and rich flavoured.

At Monica's, the friendly, professional service, atmosphere and food are excellent, which is what makes me return. You'll leave here feeling relaxed, and recharged from good eating!

Next time I'll try that turmeric latte.
