Sat 19 May 2012 - Sun 21 Oct 2012

Yesterday, my friend visited me in my office. We had lunch together and we decided to take a stroll down the garden path.

This year, The New York Botanical Garden has had many amazing exhibitions, the Orchid Show Vertical Garden by French artist/ horticulturist Patrick Blanc , the beautiful and aromatic Peggy Rockefeller Ross Garden , and now the famous garden-inspired French Impressionist, Claude Monet's Garden, from May 19 through October 21, 2012.

The name Claude Monet may not be so familiar to many people but if I only say "Monet", the famous painter, would that ring your bell?

Claude Monet was born in Paris, France and raised in Normandy . His paintings focused on the effect of light and outdoors. His art was inspired by his own seasonally-changed garden.

The Monet's Garden exhibit has been curated by Professor Paul Hayes Tucker , Distinguished Professor of Art at the University of Massachusetts Boston .

We started the exhibit at the Museum building. Once we entered the Orchid Rotunda of the museum building and went up to the Library Gallery to see Monet Paintings in the Rondina Gallery. Painted at Giverny by Claude Monet, two paintings - one which has never been publicly exhibited in the US - is on display in the Library's Rondina Gallery during Artist in the Garden. Other rare Monet artifacts including the artist's palette, bills of sale for his plants, letters, historic photographs, and more are also on display.

Then we came downstairs to see photographs of Giverny in the Ross Gallery. Seasons of Giverny, photographic portraits of Monet's iconic garden, taken by the acclaimed photographer Elizabeth Murray , are on display in the Ross Gallery revealing the beauty of Monet's garden as it is now. I wish I could post pictures of her photographs. They are amazing.

From there, we walked over to the conservatory. As we entered the conservatory I couldn't believe my eyes. The conservatory has been transformed completely by award winning scenic designer, Scott Pask . It was as if I was standing in a garden in France. There were flowers and colors everywhere. All I wanted to do was press the shutter of my camera. Claude Monet was a gardener who believed that flowers were the reason he became a painter. The conservatory has been transformed into a scene of his garden in Giverny, France. They used so many different kinds of plants in bold colors, and dramatic designs.

As we tried to absorb the beautiful displays inside of the conservatory as much as we could, we saw the water lily pool outside of the conservatory. We were told that in July, Monet's most famous subjects, water lilies, many of them the varieties he grew, will be featured in the Conservatory Courtyard Pools.

After we came out of the conservatory, we strolled around the Jane Watson Irwin Perennial Garden to read and hear about French Symbolist poets, including Mallarmé and Rimbaud.

The Monet's Garden Exhibit is one of the biggest exhibits that the New York Botanical garden has offered. The exhibit itself is so rich with information and beauty. The flowers in the conservatory are changed constantly with different kind of flowers so each time you visit, you will never have the same experience.

There are also activities and classes for families In the Everett Children's Adventure Garden. Kids get to paint outdoor and observe the colors they see then create a beautiful artwork for different seasons. Each kid can be a part of the artwork creation.
