Everyone looks forward to the end of the week to go out, and most establishments are pretty packed come the weekend. But at the start of the week, what with Monday-itis, and the general despondency of leaving the weekend behind, things can get pretty slow in pubs and restaurants.
But there is an up-side to this. In an effort to encourage business on quieter Mondays, publicans tend to offer little sweeteners. This is often in the form of great dinner deals.
I adore this particular deal. The portions are large, there are plenty of options for pizza or pasta, and the venue is great for a sunset dinner. The MacArthur Tavern is just next to the popular Macarthur Square Mall and a short walk from Macarthur train station, plus there is plenty of parking space on site.
An oldie, but a goodie - the 'Two for One Dinner Deal' on Mondays may be a reason to stick around in the city after work on Mondays. Located in Surry Hills, The Dolphin is characterized by its modern decor, and relaxed open feel.
From 5 pm you can choose any meal from the following menu categories: Chargrill, Pub Stuff, Burgers or Salads, and receive another meal of equal or lesser value for free. Prices start at around $20.
The Toongabbie Hotel has a wood-fired oven - and on Mondays you can get two of their great wood-fired pizzas for $20. Take advantage of this pizza offer onsite, or takeaway.
This might even make it worth a trip to this quiet Western Sydney suburb, and be assured, it is easy to get to if you are on public transport as it is just across the road from the train station. There's a chilled out beer garden and a relaxed vibe at the 'Toony'.
If you are around Beverly Hills on a Monday, perhaps try the Rack of BBQ Pork Ribs at the Beverly Hills Hotel. You might even consider whetting your appetite at the bar a little beforehand. Every weekday they have $3.50 schooners during their happy hour from 5 - 6 pm.
At the Grand View Hotel they have their own take on the Monday Dinner Special, with what they call their 'Muesday' Menu. The special is held over two days - Monday and Tuesday - and there is a set menu you can choose from. You get two meals for the price of one, for a total of $26.
Some of the options include: Shepherd's Pie with Salad, Cajun Chicken Salad (which is gluten-free), Chicken Stroganoff with Rice and Spinach, as well as Cheese Pie with Salad - a vegetarian option.
I should give credit to another establishment that gives us a combined Monday-Tuesday special. This time it is the celebrated pub and restaurant - The Royal - in Leichhardt. After your steak dinner, consider joining the Monday night poker at the Main Bar from 7.30 pm.
Find out more about the poker or register your interest to play by calling (02) 9569 2638 or emailing email@example.com.
Monday Nights at the Royal Oak in Double Bay are $12 schnitzels. If you have enough time, get in early before dinner and enjoy the 'Schooner for A Middy' deal that they have on weekdays from 3.30 pm - 5. 30 pm.
This is a little different when it comes to Monday Night specials, but no less a deal. Mondays From 5 pm are Feed My Mob nights at the Ettamogah in Kellyville Ridge. It is a little involved, but basically how it works is that depending upon the number of kids you are feeding, you get an increasing percent off your total bill up to 25% off.
Definitely a winner for large families, especially with the Ettamogah being very child-friendly.
There aren't many of these around Sydney, but when you find one, it's gold - the $10 dinner. Head over to Manly on a Monday to take advantage of the offer from 5 pm. Mains at the Brighton Hotel start at around $16 for a burger normally, so this is a fantastic deal.
Most of these deals come with the condition that they are not available on Public Holidays, so be sure to confirm the availability of the deals beforehand.
