Monarto Zoo is turning 30 and it's time to celebrate. Join the festivities on Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, 2013 when there will be free activities such as keeper presentations, children's crafts, face painting, animal encounters, activity trail, bouncy castle and much more.
The gifts don't stop there. To celebrate the big 3 – 0, Monarto Zoo is offering a 30% discount when tickets are pre-purchased online for the birthday weekend (tickets purchased at Monarto Zoo on the day will incur the full admission cost).
Tickets are available for pre-purchase now. They cost $22 for adults (usually $31.50), $15 for concession (usually $22.00), $12.50 for children aged 4 to 14 years (usually $18.00) and a family pass for 2 adults and up to 3 children costs $59.50 (usually $85.00).
Monarto Zoo began in 1983 as 1000 hectares of bushland used for special purpose breeding that was off limits to the general public. In 30 years it has grown to become a highly regarded zoo of international standard complete with a visitor's centre, licensed café, gift shop, function centre, shuttle bus service, picnic area and walking trails through 10 kilometres of native vegetation.
A lot may have changed over the years but Monarto's commitment to conservation and research has not. It is involved in national and international breeding programs for rare and endangered species such as the yellow-footed rock wallaby, scimitar-horned oryx, Przewalski's horse, addax, Barbary sheep, cheetah, southern white rhinoceros and African painted dog.
Other animals that call Monarto home include American bison, black rhinoceros, blackbuck, bongo, chimpanzee, chital deer, eland, mallee fowl, meerkat, Mesopotamian fallow deer, ostrich, spotted hyaena, Tasmanian devil, waterbuck and zebra. It also has Australia's largest herd of giraffe and largest pride of African lions.
Thirty years of outstanding service to environmental preservation, public education and recreation is worth celebrating. Now is the perfect time to visit, wish the zoo a happy birthday and take advantage of the 30% discount offer.
Monarto Zoo is located on Old Princes Highway off the South Eastern Freeway, approximately a 60 minute drive from Adelaide. It is open from 9.30 am until 5 pm every day (the latest entry time is 3 pm). Visit the Monarto Zoo website for all the details.
