In Momosas: Fun Alcohol-Free Drinks for Expecting Moms , by Paul Knorr, there are over 130 non-alcoholic drinks for all expecting moms to celebrate with! Everything from shrubs, sweet blender drinks, sangrias, lemonades, fizzes and sparklers and mocktails. Just because they are sober, does not mean that they have to feel left out.



In Summary

For beginners, some drinks call for simple syrup which is easy to prepare. One part sugar dissolved in boiling one part water.

Shrubs

On page 18, there is a recipe for a Basic Shrub recipe. Following are recipes such as Bubbly Berry & Rosemary Bonanza, Good News Delight, etc.

Sweet Blender Drinks

Depending on how slushie you want the drink to be, start out with ½ to 1 cup of ice. Following are recipes for Banana-licious, Trimester High, etc.

Sangrias

To make this convincing, you need to prepare this with brewed tea for the tannins and cranberry juice for the color. Following are recipes for Fizzy Tea-Gria, Grape-Gria, etc.

Lemonades

You have to have a little sugar and water for recipes such as Orange Band-Ade, Pooh Bear, etc ...

Fizzes & Sparklers

These are alternatives to juice drinks. Recipes such as Frazzled Mama, Little Munchkin and Baby Bouncer follow.

Mocktails

Drinks in this chapter include drinks such as Sunny Disposition, Mama's Joy, The Tiger's Tail, etc.

In Opinion

Knorr's book was easy to follow with such delicious recipes. I did find some recipes with titles that were different but the same ingredients in other books. For example, on page 124, there is a recipe called First Steps which is Coca-Cola, lemonade and iced tea. This drink is also known as a virgin Long Island Iced Tea by bartenders.

I think that this book would be superb as a gift to not only the mom-to-be, but also the dad-to-be. He may need to shower her with a little love and attention through this exciting time. I give this book a 5-star rating.
