The sign may be fading but the art of making Nyonya kueh sure isn't at
Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay . The factory/canteen has been supplying these dainty snacks to Penangites since 1933 and continues to do so faithfully today. In fact, they even cater for hotels, companies and functions in addition to serving their daily walk-in customers. A sit-down 'canteen' area can be found at the back, and this is accessible literally through the 'factory'. Takeaway is available too.
A selection of Nyonya kueh
Their mouth-watering kueh comes in various shapes, colours and textures and is very popular. Some are made from flour (rice or glutinous rice) while others from tapioca and glutinous rice itself. Besides the good pandan flavour, these kueh also have a distinctive taste of coconut milk and gula melaka. My favourites include kueh bengka ubi, pulut tai tai, sri muka, kueh talam and kueh lapis. Their Nyonya chang is surprisingly very tasty too. Prices start from RM0.60 per piece of kueh depending on the variety. The chang, on the other hand, costs RM7.80 each.

Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay is located on Jalan Masjid, a small road just off Lebuh Chulia, in George Town. Do look out for its faded sign. When you spot it, simply enter and walk straight to the back. Opening hours are from 10am to 5pm. For more information, head to their
website .
