I can't believe it but it's almost that time again. Yes, I am talking about Christmas. Isn't it a wonderful time of year? Spending meaningful moments with family and friends, eating and drinking all those things you spend the rest of the year trying to avoid, giving and receiving heart-felt presents. However, if you are like me, the present side of things can be a bit of a nightmare. I can't tell you how many times I have spent hours wandering aimlessly around the shops on Christmas Eve, with a long list of people for whom I still need to buy presents. Crazy.

Hopefully, you're a little more organised than I am. If not, I totally empathise. Either way if just the thought of doing your Christmas shopping is giving you a headache, you might like the sound of this. Along with their usual bi-monthly markets, the Moggill Markets is holding a special twilight Christmas market to celebrate the merry season. On Saturday the 1st of December, and again on the 15th of December from 6:30am-11am, and on Sunday the 23rd of December from 4pm-7pm, the Brookfield Showgrounds will open for a series of exciting market displays that should leave you feeling inspired.

These farmers markets are usually open on the first and third Saturday of each month during the year. However, on the first of every month and the 23rd of December you have the additional treat of arts and crafts stalls from which to select unique, hand-crafted gifts. You can give your family and friends something special this Christmas that they won't find anywhere else – or on anyone else for that matter. Visit the grounds for a festive morning or evening that will offer you a different way to shop.

If purchasing something off the rack or from a shelf filled with identical objects sounds a little dull; you won't have that problem here. You will be able to purchase fashionable bags, hats, and headbands; cute and cuddly teddy bears; beautiful and creative pieces of art, canvases, paintings and cards; luxury soaps and candles; and that's just the start of the treasures you will discover at these markets. You now have the chance to give your loved ones personalised presents that they will love. And you might even find something fabulous for yourself.

Even if you love this aspect of Christmas, these markets will be a refreshing change from the frantic pace normally experienced at your favourite department store. There's also a few culinary treats for you to enjoy while you're there. Choose from the selection of tasty delights prepared by the stallholders. Perhaps some fresh orange juice and French crepes for breakfast; or how about delicious steamed dim sims or an authentic British pork pie for supper. You will have the chance to indulge before, during or after your shopping adventure.

Additionally, you can also stock your fridge and cupboards with lots of other fresh produce such as coffee, wine, yoghurt, cheeses, breads, pates, dips, cakes, honey, jams, seafood, meats and an array of fresh fruits and vegetables. Sourcing fresh ingredients for your Christmas pantry is a brilliant way to avoid the temptation of indulging in yet another store-bought box of chocolates. These markets provide the ideal opportunity to purchase fresh produce straight from the farmers and producers themselves, not only for Christmas but also throughout the year. This is undoubtedly grass-roots shopping at its finest.

Furthermore, the Moggill Markets are run by a dedicated committee of volunteers and operate as a not-for-profit organisation. This means that all profits go straight back into the community. What better way to get into the Christmas spirit? Regardless of what you're after, these markets are the perfect place to find seasonal gifts with a little soul and a ton of personality. Add a new dimension to your Christmas by paying these markets a visit. You are bound to have a wonderful time. Don't worry, if you absolutely love them, you can always go back next month.
