If a flight to New York City to visit MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) is not on the agenda this year, then you still have a wonderful opportunity to take in some of the Big Apple's finest artworks at the NGV's Winter Masterpieces exhibition. The exhibition is called MoMA at NGV: 130 Years of Modern and Contemporary Art and better still you can follow up your artistic jaunt with a New York art inspired lunch at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins (Melbourne's Hotel for the Arts).
The exhibition allows you to experience 200 key works that trace the development of art and design from late-nineteenth-century urban and industrial transformation, through to the digital and global present.
Think Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cezanne, Pablo Picasso and Umberto Boccioni, alongside artists such as Salvador Dalí, Frida Kahlo, Alexander Calder and Jackson Pollock. And you'll get the picture.

Here you will be transported to the heart of New York. For when you are in the clouds on the 35th floor looking over at other lesser skyscrapers, it is just like dining in a New York high-rise.
The menu is called the 'Modern New Yorker Lunch'. How very chic indeed. It features edible works of art with a modern twist on New York's most iconic dishes.
This is fun and creative food. There are New York staples such as the deli-style classic Reuben sandwich and the Manhattan Clam chowder. Or how about a giant space-like crispy pork skin based on the 1978 Space Invaders video game, or macaron petit fours inspired by the creator of the first emoji's in 1991, Shigetaka Kurita.

Entree options include Waldorf salad with candied walnuts, truffle yoghurt, celeriac, apple and red grapes as well as Lower East Side bagels with smoked salmon chives and cream cheese,
For mains, treat yourself to a Rueben crammed with pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and pickles and served with a side of American fries. Or there is a Manhattan cream chowder
a divine dish of clams, bacon, potatoes, and baked croutons with tomatoes and herbs.
For dessert, indulge in an iconic New York cheesecake with raspberry coulis or a Marilyn Monroe sundae inspired by Andy Warhol's famous screen prints. This dessert has chocolate, strawberry and house-made vanilla ice cream, whipped milk jam, popping candy and dried raspberries and saffron fairy floss. Your tea and coffee is served with an emoji macaron.
