One of the most fun and interesting ways to stay fit, have fun and meet new people is to join a dancing class, so why not try something new and give Modern Jive a go? Some other names you may hear Modern Jive referred to include, Ceroc, C-Roc, Dirty Latin Jive, Mambo Rock and Modern Rock. Modern Jive is most commonly referred to as Ceroc, which is an abbreviation for the French phrase c'est Rock.
The Nuroc Dance Company runs Modern Jive lessons every Tuesday night at Rouse Hill and every Wednesday night the Penrith RSL Club. Nuroc dance nights last for a total of three hours, however the time is divided into different classes suitable for every level of dancer. The night starts with the beginner's class, which runs for an hour and teaches participants a simple but fun routine. Between classes, dancers are given 30-45 minutes of social dancing time where they can try out the new dance techniques they've learned or just have a bit of fun. An intermediate course also runs from 9.00 –9.45 p.m. and this lesson is perfect for those who feel confidant with their knowledge of Jive and dance moves and wish for a bit more of a challenge than the beginner's class has to offer. During this time however, beginners who do not feel ready for the intermediate class may partake in The Beginner's Revision and Technique Class, which allows them to gain extra experience, as well as personal feedback from the teacher. All in all there are fourteen beginner routines to practice, with participants learning a new dance routine each week. The Nuroc Modern Jive nights are perfect for both couples and singles, as you can either rotate with other students as dance partners or choose to bring your own partner and stay dancing with them for the duration of the night. Participants are required to arrive 15 minutes early to the venue to allow time for registration.
Modern Jive classes range from beginner to more intermediate so there is a class for every level of dancer
The Ceroc Australia Dance Company has been in operation since 1991 and teaches Modern Jive at various venues throughout New South Wales, including Hornsby, Bexley, North Sydney, Ashfield, Mona Vale and the Central Coast. Classes run all year round, so participants are able to join anytime they wish. All levels of Jive dancers are welcome, from complete beginners to the more advanced – the main aim of the classes is for dancers to learn and have fun. Participants are also welcome to bring their own partner, however classes are quite large so there are always enough dancers to partner-up with. There are also "Taxi Dancers" at each dance venue who are available to help those who are only new to Jive.
The Ceroc and Modern Jive Dance Company have been in operation since 1999 and classes are taught at venues throughout New South Wales, including Wentworthville, Gymea, Lane Cove, West Ryde, Concord, Dee Why, Canada Bay, Willoughby and Parramatta. Similar to the Nuroc Dance Company, Ceroc and Modern Jive dance lessons are split into a beginners' class and an intermediate class with social dance time after each class. The night runs from 7.15 – 10.30 p.m. and participants have the choice of bringing their own partner or rotating with different partners on the night.
Intermediate dancers participate in the beginners' class before their own in order to assist beginners with any moves they find tricky. Social dancing time not only provides students with the option to practice and brush up on what they've just learnt, but it also allows them to get to know and interact with the other students in their class.
Social dance time allows students to get to know one another, practice their new moves or just have a bit of fun
