A friend and I have a book club, and by book club, I mean the two of us choose a book and read it and then get together over tea and coffee and discuss it when we're finished. It's a brilliant way of reading things we might normally never choose or reading things we've had on our shelves for ages but have yet to get around to. It's also great to just catch up and chat!
But until now, we've not found that special place to meet up and have our literary debriefs. So when we ended up at Mockingbird Lounge, it was a feast for the mind and the mouth! The little coffee shop's Facebook page states that they are "a second-hand book store and coffee shop serving delicious coffee, fine teas and home-made sweet treats. Local art is displayed - available for purchase, as well as a small selection of beautiful stationery and cards."
The shop boasts comfy armchairs, coffee tables and walls covered in second-hand books in excellent condition. They also have little bits and pieces of jewellery and stationary and gift ideas for sale by local creators - we could not have found a more suitable place for a book club get together!
The atmosphere of the lounge is relaxing, quiet and peaceful, so if you're looking for somewhere to drink tea and read a good book on a lazy Saturday morning, this is the place to head to. The staff were friendly and welcoming and even sitting at a table with our tea and banana bread and fruit toast, we didn't feel in the way of other customers browsing the shelves.
The lounge is open Monday through to Sunday from 9am until 5pm and it's located at 63a Broadway in Glenelg, which means there is also ample parking in the streets around it.
Make sure you check this cute little nook of Adelaide out - especially as the weather starts to cool down. What better way to welcome the winter months in than by wrapping your hands around a warm drink and delving into a feast of literature!
