What better way to spend a few quiet hours than with a great cup of tea or coffee and a good book? A new approach to the traditional coffee shop recently opened on the Broadway at Glenelg South and includes - you guessed it - a bookshop.
The Mockingbird Lounge is a second-hand bookshop and coffee shop in one. The shop consists of three rooms with the entrance area a shop front and serving area. The back two rooms, lined with book shelves and groaning with near-new books for every taste and fancy, are intimate meeting spaces to relax, flip through a book and enjoy a relaxing coffee.
A natural instinct when walking through the Mockingbird Lounge, is to scan the shelves, pick out a book, read the cover and skim the first few pages! In no time, my friends and I were doing just that and to be able to enjoy a latte at the same time was a real treat.
If you are after something a little more, Mockingbird Lounge will provide a high tea, complete with sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and other sweet treats.
Mockingbird Lounge also runs book clubs. For a $10 monthly membership fee, readers are placed into a book club of six which meets once a month at The Mockingbird Lounge. All book club members are given 'a book of the month' to read and meet at book club to discuss the book and enjoy a cuppa at the same time. With a growing list of 45 titles to choose from, there is sure to be a book your whole club can agree on to read!
The Mockingbird Lounge also sells a selection of homemade gifts, jewellery and greeting cards and included a display of paintings by South Australian artist, Marie Hart, daughter of the well known artist Pro Hart.
The Mockingbird Lounge is open six days a week and is closed on Mondays.
