Moana Beach is a popular destination for beach-goers during the summer months, but a short distance away, man's four-legged friends have their own playground. Only an hours drive from the centre of town, Moana hosts one of Adelaide's few dog exercise beaches.
Balls and frisbees will go down a treat but thankfully aren't necessary. The sea and sand provide more than enough fun and there are also many opportunities for your dogs to socialise. If you're down there with your dog take the opportunity to get some exercise of your own while they spend their time running, sniffing, and marking their territory. You will also get the chance to do a bit of socialising of your own as there are plenty of other dog owners to chat to while your pooches play. You're likely to be bringing home a large amount of sand.
If you find yourself in the area unprepared the local council have taken care of some of the finer details for you. The esplanade sports multiple free dog litterbag despensers and there are plenty of taps to get your dog some fresh water. Locals will also often leave bowls of water by businesses and homes for any passing dehydrated dogs.
If your dog is a bit shy around other dogs you can opt to take him for a walk along the esplanade instead. This walking path spans the length of the beach and offers some good views.
The Moana Dog Exercise Beach is free to use and available all year round. The dedicated dog beach operates between 10am and 8pm during summer, but at all other times your dog has free reign of the whole beach. The dog beach is located approximately 300 metres from the Moana Surf Life Saving Club.
