Art Gallery of South Australia on North Terrace, Adelaide is presenting works of art produced from the 16th century to the present day, Misty Mountain, Shining Moon: Japanese Landscape Envisioned, at Galleries 19, 20, 21, until 1 April 2024.

This exhibition showcases the beauty of the Japanese landscape as represented by some of the world’s most celebrated artists, including Takeuchi Seiho (1864–1942) and Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849). You will be able to explore the evolving dialogue between artists and nature through displays brush, ink paintings to vivid woodblock prints that express a rich collection of art across mediums and centuries while revealing shifting connections with the Japanese landscape. This absolute beauty of Japanese landscapes represents a deep reverence for the natural world, that Japanese artists have long appreciated, from the scenic beauty of the mountains and fertile plains of the archipelago to venerated as the abode of numinous deities.
