Event:
Experience the real Mexico
A few years ago, my daughter and I lived in Mexico for around 2 months. I say 'lived' instead of 'travelled' because we didn't stay in a hotel or go on travel tours and do the typical tourist scene. Some family friends let us stay at their house and we were immersed into genuine Mexican life, day to day meal times, shopping for groceries at the local supermarket, cooking authentic Mexican food, and living and learning about the typical Mexican lifestyle. Of course we did travel, from Mexico City to Puebla to Oaxaca and everywhere else in between, but we avoided tourist hot spots and preferred cultural and historical sightseeing, places like the pyramids of Teotihuacán, visiting Frida Kahlo's house 'La Casa Azul', and the great Anthropology Museum in Mexico City. The trip was transformational, and I can truly say that Mexico is one of the most fascinating places in the world.

So, any chance I have to relive an authentic Mexican experience, with REAL Mexican food, music from Mariachi, or being surrounded by the colours of Mexico, makes me just a little bit too excited. That's why I'm thrilled about the upcoming Mexican Festival!

The Mission Foods Mexican Festival will be held on Sunday 13th September from 11:30am to 8.30pm at Federation Square Melbourne. It will be a culinary exploration of Mexico's different regions, from the rainforest of Tabasco to the hustle and bustle of Mexico City.

Melbourne's top Mexican chefs will be presenting authentic, regional dishes from one of the 32 states of Mexico! Enjoy the exquisite flavours of Mexico at Mamasita, Touche Hombre, Los Amates, La Tortilleria, Mexico City, Paco's Tacos, Mesa Verde, Kikiriki, Guzman y Gomez, South American BBQ, Mad Mex, Santa Ana Tapas Bar, Taco Truck and many more.

Experience the Mexican Cantina/Bar and taste traditional Mexican brews like tequila, mescal, beer and wine. The bar opens at 1 pm. Follow the Festival's Facebook updates here for more information about booking into a tasting session.

Mexican artists and musicians will transform Federation Square as the Festival celebrates Mexican Independence Day! It will be a genuine Mexican fiesta! Discover the beautiful and mesmerizing works of Mexican artists, the colourful traditional costumes from Mexico and read about the different regional cuisines of Mexico in the Atrium at Federation Square.
There will also be a Mexican Market selling authentic Mexican handicrafts, jewellery, clothing, and Mexican food products. Oh, this will take me back to the beautiful markets of Coyoacán and Puebla!

Last year, the Festival attracted over 40,000 people and this year, the free event is expected to be even more delicious, entertaining and immersive offering a window into Mexico's gastronomy, tourism, art, music and traditions.

Don't miss the live entertainment on the Viva Mexico Stage, presenting local Mexican musicians, folk dance groups, traditional Mariachi band, live salsa band, Mexican rock band, dance lessons, Mexican DJs and much more! Kids can also head down to the Mission Foods Kids' Corner for great kids and family activities. Seriously, what more could you ask for?

I think you have the wrong day/date. It's either Saturday 12th September or Sunday 13th September so which day is it?
