There is going to be an out of this world school holiday program and this is a five-day space and stem student program.



Mission Discovery will be a holiday program for boys and girls in years 7 to10 and it will be led by some of the world's most brilliant minds. It will be held from 8th to 12th July 2019 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.



This will be an opportunity for ordinary children to do something extraordinary! You will be able to learn from a NASA astronaut, NASA leaders and expert scientists to launch your ideas into space.

You will be in teams and take on the role of research scientists and design a science experiment to be conducted in space. The overall winning team's experiment, as judged by the NASA panel, will be launched to the International Space Station and conducted by astronauts on board!

This is a full immersion in space with plenty of hands-on activities. It will help you to develop leadership, teamwork and public speaking skills.

The astronauts and others who will be in the Perth team are as follows:

  • Steve Swanson - NASA Astronaut and ISS Commander



  • Dr Julie Keeble, King's College, London, Lecturer of Pharmacology

  • Sarah Murray - NASA's deputy of Orion vehicle systems performance and analysis

  • Chris Barber - founder and director of ISSET



  • At this event several things will happen and some of these are:

  • LEARN - you will learn to develop an extraordinary mindset
  • MEET - you will meet like-minded students and global mentors
  • DESIGN - you will get to design an experiment to benefit the human race
  • LAUNCH - you may get to launch your experiment which could change the world

  • Mission Discovery space and stem program is all set to inspire the next generation of game-changers, change makers and those who are modern day space racers!

    Mission Discovery will be on at Curtin University, Bentley campus. It will teach you to have skills in [i]"problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, scientific method and convincing presentations."[/i] It will also develop your imagination and creative confidence by encouraging you to think without boundaries and pressure.

    At this event, teacher or parent supervision is not required as there will be mentors from Curtin University who will supervise the groups.

    Work with a NASA astronaut, NASA leaders and space scientists

    In teams of six, you will take on the role of research scientists.

    Science and Engineering University students will mentor the teams throughout the program. The overall winning team, as judged by the NASA panel, has their experiment built and carried out on the International Space Station as mentioned above - how exciting is that!.
