The pefect pitstop for your central coast roadtrip

There is nothing I love more than scones with fresh country jam and cream. I might love a good coffee and a lemon slice equally as much, with a hearty breakfast coming in a close third. All these bases are covered at Miss Nellie's Cafe in the semi-regional township of Kendall, NSW. Sitting just over the bridge from the picturesque Camden Haven, is Kendall. Being slightly inland, the weather is little more dramatic than it's water-front neighbours an the morning we visited was an early July gem. Strong sunshine baked the front verandah, whilst those who preferred a little more shade took shelter in the cafe's beautiful al fresco dining garden.

We were headed to Miss Nellie's for breakfast and we had a big appetite to feed, as well as high expectations. I was dining with my partner, a chef from Melbourne, so we can tend to be a little bit picky about our breakfast cafes, and coffee.

We were not disappointed.

Miss Nellie's menu is not large, but it sufficiently covers all the standard breakfast and lunch options, with a couple of local/house specialites thrown in for good measure. We ordered two breakfast dishes and one off the menu order to suit a gluten-free, dairy-free diner (my mum!) who was joining us also. We also ordered a couple of coffees and one bottled juice.

All items were delivered quickly and all the food came out together, which is a huge plus for us fussy kids from Melbourne who are used to this standard of service. Everything looked and tasted great. The food was cooked to perfection, the eggs somewhere between poached and fried, were delicious! All ingredients were fresh and you could tell had just been prepared, not pre-cooked then warmed up and served.

We ate, basking in the sunlight, and admiring the country views. It was nothing short of delightful. I was tempted by the huge range of house-made afternoon snacks that were in the display fridge/cabinet, however was too full from breakfast to enjoy it in the manner it deserved. The couple next to us ordered scones with jam and cream, which looked divine! I would definitely stop by Miss Nellie's again for those!

All up, the only thing missing from the dining experience was a fresh juice, which I enjoy with my breakfast, however I understand the time and resources that it takes to make fresh juice. Miss Nellie's operated out of a small kitchen with what looked to be only three staff, so I completely understand why fresh juice was not available. Besides that, we did not have a single complaint about the food, the prices or the atmosphere.

So thank you Miss Nellie for a great breakfast, you will certainly see us again soon.
