A fabulous collection of 1920s fashions worn by fictional crime-fighting heroine Miss Phryne Fisher has been unveiled to glittering effect inside Brisbane's Old Government House on the grounds of QUT's Gardens Point campus. features more than 50 exquisite garments designed by award-winning costume designer Marion Boyce for the popular Australian television series.

Based upon the book series by lawyer and author Kerry Greenwood, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries offers a luxurious take on the traditional crime drama. But even if you've never watched a single episode, you'll still enjoy this exhibition, as excerpts from the series playing on strategically-placed television screens serve to orient novice viewers.

Incorporating seemingly bucketloads of lace, brocade, beads, buckles, feathers, sequins, trims and tulle, features custom-designed frocks worn by actor Essie Davis (as Miss Phryne Fisher) as well as outfits donned by co-stars such as Detective Inspector Jack Robinson (Nathan Page) and Aunt Prudence (Miriam Margolyes). Davis says of her costumes: 'They just make me feel so good that I get away with things I could never pull off in my everyday life.' Matching accessories required by any self-respecting flapper, including hats, earrings, brooches, gloves and handbags, offer further glimpses into this well-put-together era.

In addition to the costumes, the exhibition features a mirrored dress-up room (where you can try 1920s garments and accessories on for size) and a drawing room (where you can try your hand at fashion illustration). There's even a room offering a behind-the-scenes peek at the costume department's creative processes, and the painstaking work which goes into ensuring the stars of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries look their effortless best in each and every episode.

Several special events catering to niche interests are scheduled throughout the course of . These include a styling workshop with The Lindy Charm School for Girls , 'how to' sessions in which attendees can make their own flapper headbands or beaded accessories, and 'behind-the-seams' tours of the exhibition with textile and fashion experts. If you want to attend any of these events, you'll need to get your skates on, as tickets are being snapped up fast, and some sessions are already sold out.
