Miss Chu Vietnamese Tuck Shop, South Yarra

Last night I had a fabulous Vietnamese meal with a friend at Miss Chu in South Yarra.
Being a self-confessed foodie who is still quite new to Melbourne, I am constantly on the hunt for great food in my local area.
Vietnamese is one of my favourite cuisines, so when my friend suggested Miss Chu after a rainy afternoon at the AFL - I jumped at the chance.
The warm and cosy atmosphere at Miss Chu was just what we needed after a freezing afternoon sitting in the stands of the MCG. My feet started to thaw out almost immediately.
There is a definite "tuck-shop" vibe, with industrial interiors and a bustling backdrop of people eating, cooking, serving and chatting.
I loved the sound of the frozen coconut crush, but was too cold to even contemplate sipping on an ice cold drink - so I settled for a warming mulled wine instead.
Now for the food. Being both cold and starving, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs (one of my mum's old sayings!). We ordered scallop and prawn dumplings, spinach and tofu dumplings, roast duck and banana flower rice paper rolls, wild rice and quinoa with lemongrass beef and a "do-it-yourself" style roll with egg and mushroom.
I enjoyed everything that we ordered - the food arrived quickly, it was fresh and tasty and the servings were generous. The highlight for me was the roast duck and banana flower rice paper rolls - they were absolutely delicious.
One of the only downsides was the size of the table. We were seated at a very "cosy" two-seater at the side of the restaurant. All of our food arrived at the same time and there was not enough space at the table. Bringing out the dumplings first and other courses later might have been a better option.
Would I return to Miss Chu at South Yarra?
Absolutely. My mouth is watering just thinking about those rice paper rolls!
