Nowadays the word burlesque means a performance in a variety show format. These were very popular from the 1860's to the 1940's. They were usually performed in cabarets and clubs, as well as theatres, and featured bawdy comedy and female striptease. There has been a renewed interest in burlesque since the 1990's.
This event is Australia's most prestigious burlesque competition. The year's Miss Burlesque State Title winners are flying to Perth to compete for the title of Miss Burlesque Australia 2018! At this show, there will be drama, sensuality, humour and, of course, talent! These dazzling performers will give a wonderful performance, and the "bar has never been set higher". The event is strictly for ages 18 and over.
The grand final judges for the 2018 Miss Burlesque were recently announced -

Another judge for this event will be Amber Hasler. Amber is the Director of the Fringe World Festival and a team member of ARTRAGE, producers of the festival.
Sugar Du Joure will be one of the 2018 Miss Burlesque Grand Final judges. She was an entrant in the 2012 to 2016 Miss Burlesque. Sugar is described as "the storm in a G Cup, the Breast in the West!" She was one of Perth's premier burlesque performers and has performed all over the world. She is well known amongst the Burlesque community as a comedy queen.
The words "Make 'em laugh, make 'em laugh, don't you know ev'ry one wants to laugh?" were from Singing in the Rain. These are words that come to life when Scarlet Adams took to the stage. She was crowned this year's Miss Burlesque Western Australia State Finalist. She's silly, funny and a self-confessed "Glamoursaurus". Wearing ridiculous 7" high heels, Scarlet is the first Drag Queen to compete in the Miss Burlesque Australia history!
Winning this title was a massive effort as the line up for this was huge with some very talented people. Scarlet says of herself "I am through and through a comedy queen. People love to laugh, and I love to entertain."
