At this time of the year, we often get really hot days and it is quite ideal to be hiking in amongst a rainforest where, although humid, it is often quite cool under the large trees. With this in mind, why not join a hike to experience the natural beauty of this rare subtropical and warm temperate rainforest.
You will possibly find out many secrets and hidden crevices of the rainforest. You will be able to see the fauna of the eastern water dragons, swamp wallabies and many bird species which live in the areas of Minnamurra.
This event will be a special educational tour for children and they will be able to learn about the history and animals of the forest.
Children will be able to walk and discover the rainforest and the fascinating waterfalls. There are several waterfalls and one of them is Carrington Falls. They will have wonderful views from one of three lookouts and there are also picnic facilities nearby. Children will get to see the beauty of this rare piece of a subtropical and warm temperate rainforest.
This is a free activity run by the Cumberland Council and will run from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm on 23rd January 2019. The drop-off and pick up point will be at Guildford Community Centre, 90 O'Neill Street, Guildford. This activity is for children aged 12 to 18 years and who live in the Cumberland Local Government Area. You may be requested to provide proof of residence.
Please make sure are dressed appropriately and wearing closed in shoes such as sneakers, as well as comfortable clothes. You will also need to bring some sunscreen and a hat for protection on the day.
You will be provided with some snacks but you will need to bring your own packed lunch for the picnic. You can make your booking
here.
Each person can book a maximum of three programs per week. This enables other young people to take part in Cumberland Council's School Holiday Program.
There is free parking at the site and you must bring a signed waiver form with you. Parents do not need to remain at the park as there will be staff available all day, however, you must pick up your children at the stated time at the end of the event.
About Minnamurra Park
Minnamurra Rainforest Centre is in Budderoo National Park. This is a very special and interesting area which has been nurtured and conserved for more than a hundred years! The Minnamurra Rainforest is extremely precious and is a very popular tourist destination. You can generally wander on raised boardwalks and explore the rainforest that at one time covered much of the region.
You can do two very interesting walks - go on the rainforest loop walk and The Falls walk and discover fascinating plants and animals in the most stunning surroundings. With the wonderful falls, Budderoo could well be one of the most relaxing places around. The walk to the actual Minnamurra Falls, which is a double-tiered waterfall, or Carrington Falls, with its fabulous 50m drop is both amazing and well worth seeing!
You can read more about this delightful area at this
website.
