As soon as I arrived at Minimo Cafe, I understood why my friend would pick this place for our annual catch up. It's a trendy little café on the corner of Sydney and Donald Rd. You can't miss it because it is flagged by a bike with flowers in the basket.
This café has outdoor seating and an indoor section with various organic foods for sale. This café has a stylist that I would like. There is on-trend pendant lighting, classy artwork and staff who like a personal chat. Somehow the chef knew my friend's daughter and they had a chat and a laugh about that.
It's Brunswick, so dare I say there is the obligatory man bun and the young good-looking waiter with turned up jeans and ankles showing above his boots.
Minimo, is Italian minimum, but their menu, serving sizes and service are not minimal. The cafe was created by Colleen Carter and Chef Claudio Crupi. Minimo serves a large range of tasty home cooked pastries and cakes and combines the tastes of Australian, Italian and Middle Eastern Food. They pride themselves on only using the freshest, seasonal ingredients They regularly change their menu.
There's always a Bowl Full of Goodness on the menu. For example, Six Star Waldorf brekky bowl with kale, celery, snow peas & sugar snaps, pecans crumbled feta, fresh peach cheeks & avocado with apple cider dressing (VO) (you can swap with vegan feta) $17.50.
I had the halloumi, red wild rice, seeds, kale, spinach with avocado smash, grain bread and a poached egg for $17.90. I felt as virtuous as a Buddhist on a cleaning weekend, when I could have chosen something with much higher calories!
It's not that there weren't enough items on the menu but my friend had something alternative in mind. She wanted toast, salmon and avocado and that's what they made to order. Of course, she is a megastar of vast proportions but I think you could ask too and have your own tailor-made meal.
We were both super pleased with the food. It was served in a timely manner and was faultless. They also make take away. What a great healthy idea.
