MINI LIVING - INVERT at 200 Little Collins St, Melbourne (entry via Russell Place) from 4 - 8 October 2017 is an exhibition and series of talks on the importance of sustainable, small-scale architecture. This free event brought to you by Green Magazine , in collaboration with MINI Living and the City of Melbourne , brings together fourteen architects who have responded enthusiastically to the brief, and their designs and 3D models will be exhibited on the site. Exhibition opening times are 10am to 5pm everyday, except on the last day (8 Oct), when it'll be 10am to 4pm.

On October 5 and 6 the architects will share the inspiration behind their designs. These free talks will be held on site at Russell Place, Melbourne, and bookings are now open for the limited seats. Videos of the talks will be posted after the event.

CLICK HERE for Thursday 5 October 2017 at 6pm for presenting architects Archiblox, Architecture Architecture, Austin Maynard Architects, Dreamer, Panovscott, Steffen Welsch Architects, and an RMIT architecture student.

Invited by Green Magazine, architects submitted plans and a 1:20 scale model of the site to explore the design potential presented by unconventional spaces. A brief for the 6x10m footprint located at the rear of 200 Little Collins street was created. This brief has also been incorporated into the course for RMIT Master of Architecture Design Studio students.

The students from said RMIT course have also commenced work on their models, and it would be more than thrilling to observe the talent of these emerging architects. One of them will have their work shown at the site, and the rest will be on exhibition at RMIT's Design Hub also from 4-8 October. An opportunity to interrogate the discourse of small scale living in dense inner urban conditions; reflected Ian Nazareth, Associate Lecturer Architecture and Urban Design at RMIT.

Given the unique spatial characteristics of the location, construction logistics in designs had to be considered. Reimagined as a home suited to a young family of four, the designs had to include some kind of garden vegetation for the harmony of an inner-city home. What you'll see are the chosen models and designs suspended inside a glasshouse, alongside a botanical display by Loose Leaf .

Green Magazine has always had an interest in small scale, residential projects and hope that the exhibition will provide inspiration to those considering tackling issues of scale, urban sprawl and liveability. In a growing city and let's face it, a world bursting at the seams, City of Melbourne Environment Portfolio Chair Councillor Cathy Oke says these creative and innovative designs could definitely be part of the solutions to high quality, sustainable designs that'll cater to residents of the future.

It definitely engages in a conversation we all need to have, on the broader issues around sustainability, adaptability and vitality of the home. It's definitely a unique platform and forum for ideas to be exchanged through design propositions that speculate about an imminent future, revisiting every aspect of the domestic environment in order to point to a possible, counterfactual city.

For videos on other inspirational projects, check for it on Green Magazine's website . Keep up with the conversation on their Facebook page , as they showcase all the wonderful architects involved in this exhibition, via a series of MINI profiles. So far they've covered five architects, with nine to go, so keep up!
