New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.

36 holes of Canberra-inspired fun
Yarralumla Play Station is located in the popular Weston Park in Yarralumla, less than 10 minutes from the CBD. Under new management since 2014, Yarralumla Play Station (previously called Weston Park Railway) has been busily updating the property with a miniature train ride for the kids, party room train carriages and now the recently completed Canberra themed 36 hole golf course. Our family has been waiting for the completion of the Lake Walter Mini Golf course and couldn't wait to give it a try - along with every other family in Canberra!

The golf course is cleverly designed around miniatures of Canberra's iconic landmarks, making this a fun and surprising course. Putt your way along the AIS running track, around the Telstra Tower, over Parliament House and up to the Australian War Memorial. There are two courses you can choose from with varying difficulty. There is the "Lake Walter Links" which is a slightly more tricky 18 holes, popular with couples and older families.
The other 18 hole course is "Lake Walter Putt Putt", aimed at families with fun obstacles to challenge all ages. Putt through bicycle wheels, into pipes, over ramps, around the AIS stadium, up the sides of the "Shine Dome" and finally a trick shot up a ramp and into the final hole.

Our family laughed our way through this fun-filled course and our daughter, aged four, can't wait to "go back again and again". As we putted around, we spent the whole time commenting on how creative and clever each hole was, enjoying discovering local landmarks at nearly every hole. The occasional cry of "HOLE IN ONE!" could be heard around the course, making for some friendly competition between groups.
When we visited on a weekend the carpark was full, there were dozens of people on the course, children's parties were held in two carriages, there was a line of kids for the miniature train and a full café inside. Although busy, it wasn't hectic, with families, couples and friends enjoying themselves in the party environment. Yarralumla Play Station is the place to be for kids of all ages, especially for birthday parties with train rides included in the price. There are four function rooms inside the two 100 year old carriages which can hold up to 40 people.
Of course the visit isn't complete without hopping on the miniature train ride around the property on a little blue train called Bluebell - that looks a lot like Thomas. The train chugs past the mini golf, through a tunnel and around the animals on the property, still under construction. The kids enjoy waving at the other "miniatures" on the property - Poppy the Lamb, Herb the Cow and Pepper the Pony. These beautiful animals are getting used to their new homes and will be part of the Petite Petting Park for children's parties starting in 2016.
If you need some refuelling after all the excitement, The Station Stop Café has family style food with chicken nuggets, hot chips, burgers, rolls and icecream. The Café resembles dining carriages in a train with wooden booths as well as smaller picnic tables for the kids. There are also board games in the corner, to keep the kids busy while you wait.

For visitors and families around Canberra, the Yarralumla Play Station is a fun place to entertain the kids, especially in the school holidays. All ages can enjoy the golf course with the party carriages and miniature train popular with the young ones. Yarralumla Play Station at Weston Park is located less than 7km's from the city, yet feels miles from care with kayakers paddling past on the lake and wild kangaroos hopping by. It will be a place that families will return to time and time again.
Our family will see you there.
