Cooking With Kids: Mini Cinnamon Pastry Scrolls Recipe

Are you looking for a tasty recipe to make with your kids? This recipe was made with my daughter, aged 9, after we were both inspired after watching
Masterchef Junior Australia. I wanted to make something with her that had a few interesting things for her to do - such as crack an egg and use her fingers to get messy - without too many complicated steps. We both love puff pastry, so we started experimenting with making scrolls with just sugar and cinnamon, and these turned out to be a winner!
Make sure you try one, before they disappear!
Ingredients
**1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
1/4 cup raw sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 egg**
What To Do
Step 1: Preheat oven to 220 degrees, fan-forced. Line a tray with baking paper.
Step 2: In a small bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon.
Step 3: In another small bowl, crack the egg and stir it.
Step 4: Lay the pastry sheet flat and use a teaspoon to scatter half of the sugar mix all over the pastry. Press down with your fingers.
Step 5: Drizzle the egg over the top of the sugar mix and spread the egg all over the pastry using your fingers. Ensure you get into every corner.
Step 6: Sprinkle the remaining sugar mix over the egg mix and press down with your fingers.
Step 7: Starting at one long end, roll the pastry up as tight as you can. This can get a bit fiddly, so you may need to help with this step!
Step 8: Use a sharp knife to cut the roll into slices, approx. 3cm wide.
Step 9: Use a spatula to lift them onto the baking tray, leaving space between each one.
Step 10: Bake for 10 minutes until golden. Serve warm with icing sugar sprinkled over the top.
This was a good recipe to make with my daughter as it gave her some new skills, such as cutting with a sharp knife, without having too many ingredients or things to do. The best part was that it only took 10 minutes to cook and we all got to enjoy the end results! My daughter now calls this her "signature dish", which she is very proud of.
Why don't you do some cooking with your kids this weekend?
