Mingus, Monk and Miles - If you are a fan of jazz music then these names will be familiar to you. Known in some circles as three of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis were very influential in forming the face of jazz.

You will thoroughly enjoy this fantastic yearly showcase of jazz by the students of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts or WAAPA. Come along to the Geoff Gibbs Theatre at WAAPA, ECU in Mount Lawley for a night of smooth jazz music. Held over three big nights, Wednesday 10th, Thursday 11th and Friday 12th April, 2013, the performance will start at 7.30pm each night.

A fantastic evening of jazz entertainment has been put together by the talented WAAPA jazz students and musical director Jamie Oehlers.

Charles Mingus (1922-1979), was an American jazz musician, double bassist, composer and bandleader. Highly influential, Charles Mingus's music contains elements of soul, blues, classical and gospel stylings, yet he had his very own brand of unique jazz.

Thelonious Monk (1917-1982), was an American jazz pianist and composer. Well know for his unique improvisational style and his performance eccentricities, he is also well know for his dress style or hats, suits and sunglasses. Considered to be a giant of the jazz industry, Thelonious Monk is the second-most recorded jazz composer ever.

Miles Davis (1926-1991), was an American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. Possibly one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century, Miles Davis was a big part of the jazz scene and was famous for his trumpet playing style.

Tickets for Mingus, Monk and Miles are $24.00 each or $20.00 for concession holders and Friends of the Academy. Bookings are essential and tickets are available from the WAAPA website.
