Walking into the beautiful venue that is The Jade, we were ushered to the gorgeous event space with a stage that was decorated in an array of materials that Julian Bull would quickly wow us with, using the art of magic.

While most of the props used by Bull are ordinary and everyday objects that are used far too often by magicians in their show, it didn't fail to captivate the audience as he made things appear and disappear with no explanation in sight. Throughout the 45-minute show, we were treated coins 'growing' between fingers, card tricks that were delivered effortlessly with 'psychic' powers thrown into the mix, fusing different-sized ropes into one massive rope that somehow seamlessly cut through flesh (no blood was spilled, don't worry!), revealing drawings on a formerly blank piece of paper with just a couple of flips, having an endless supply of golf balls, solving a Rubik's cube in less than 2 minutes - just your average stuff that was used to create some spectacular illusions!

The fact that Bull has spent 11 years of perfecting his art is quite evident in his ability to blow your mind and constantly utter, "How did he do that?" with his marvelous magic tricks. Bull sported a heavy concentration face throughout his performance, as he left his audiences in a state of wonder and awe, but he was able to balance it out with a whimsical charm that added to the core essence of his show. Peppered with lighthearted moments that attracted laughs and surprised gasps echoing from all corners of the room, it didn't take long for the audience to erupt into roaring applause, as he made his way around and room and weaved every single person into his acts.

With the style of the venue and the way the room and stage are set, I would suggest Bull to take his time with his card tricks and let the audiences get a better glimpse of the target cards, as it was occasionally difficult to see what card(s) he was trying to showcase as being the ones that he would guess right (without looking at them). The pacing of the show was brilliant and we seemed to end the show just a couple of minutes sooner, so it would be great to see Bull slow down his tricks - just a tad - in order for the audiences to be on the same page about the magic that was unfolding before them and experience a heavier impact, in terms of the closing segment of each act.

Bull exhibits a strong level of talent and charm and unlike most magic shows, he allows his audience to run a major part of his show, so that they can see the magic happening first-hand. By slowing down the times for the visuals to be seen by the audience and giving them the time to process what is happening before them, I truly believe that Bull will be able to keep us all on the edge of our seats, as he effortlessly manipulates the laws of gravity and demonstrates the impossible in a crafty manner. Whether you're a skeptic like myself who likes to dissect every tiny detail or simply want to be awestruck by a show that uses ordinary and traditional props used in a magic show in a new light, then make sure you head over to Bull's show this Adelaide Fringe season. I promise to you that it lives up to the name of this show and is indeed, mind-blowing magic.
