Spring time means different things to different people. For some, it represents rejuvenation and renewal, while others take pleasure in the beautiful floral blooms that magically manifest, almost overnight, or eagerly anticipate long days in the not-so-distant future, languidly lazing on the beach. For me, however, Spring is a time of nostalgia, when many schools and community groups hold their annual fairs and fetes: a blast from the past in an age when shopping is usually done at suburban plazas or on-line, and entertainment is sophisticated and often reliant on modern technology. Harking back to a simpler, gentler era, these community events charm and intrigue me, and whenever I hear about one I try to attend. Each is quite unique in ambience and what is on offer, while all support some kind of worthy local cause: a school, hospital or church, for example.

One terrific spring fete that will be held in the near future is the Millers Forest Primary School P & C Country Fair. Situated just across the Hunter River from Raymond Terrace, Millers Forest is a peaceful rural locale with a strong community focus. Reflecting this wholesome country ambience, the fair promises to be a great family-friendly event, with heaps of exciting activities for people of all ages and inclinations.

For those with plenty of energy there will be laser tag, a jumping castle, along with lots of other fun and games. Children will also enjoy the lego and colouring competitions, rides, face-painting and balloon animals, while grown-ups can enjoy browsing amongst the various market stalls (including old favourites like homemade cakes, slices, lemonade and handicrafts) and admiring the art displays. There will also be raffles, show-bags, refreshments, food and much, much more.

In a nutshell, the Millers Forest Primary School P & C Country Fair promises to be a fun and fabulous day in a breathtakingly lovely location, with loads of entertainment for the whole family. Best of all, it supports a worthy cause, and all proceeds will go to the school's P & C for much-needed new playground equipment. What better way to spend a lovely spring day?

Millers Forest Primary School P & C Country Fair will be held this year on Saturday 19th October, from 10.00am until 2.00pm at 127 Martin's Wharf Road, Millers Forest. For more information, call the school on 02 9987 2520 or Melissa on 0408 781 753. You can also find out more on their Facebook page.
