A new playground with lots of fantastic features
Millars Landing is a new community in the southern suburb of Baldivis that is located just off the Kwinana Freeway. In somewhat of a commonality in new estates, it also has a cool playground for the kids.
Millars Landing Steamrail Adventure Playground has some fantastic features, including a flying fox, a huge tower and slide and lots of musical play. As the name suggests, it features an element of steamraill in the form of a train play structure.
My children and I paid a visit on a warm day. There are various places to park if you don't live locally and have to drive to the playground, like we did. My two children made a beeline for the little train. The kids can climb in it and pretend to be the train driver - there are two steering wheels, which certainly reduced the amount of squabbling between my two little darlings.
The tower looks rather menacing but it is easy to get up to the top via the steps. Of course, this may mean you are coerced into taking your two tots down the slide, which is also a little on the menacing side but is actually scarier than it looks!
At the tower, you will also find a small slide for toddlers, plus a rock climbing wall and rope ladder. Next to this section is a great little musical play area, which has various instruments including drums and a giant xylophone.
Every great park seems to have a flying fox these days. This one has two seats, one of which has back support and is suitable for toddlers, while the other is the traditional-style flying fox seat that older children will get a kick out of.
As I mentioned, my children and I visited on a warm day, which brought a couple of disadvantages to the surface. The synthetic flooring around the slide was very hot on the warm day we visited, so make sure your children keep their shoes on! There was also a lack of shade for the play areas, but perhaps this has been since added.
At the time we visited, there were no public toilets at the park, but there seemed to be a lot of construction going on to the side of the park, so perhaps there are plans for one at the site in the future.
Overall the kids enjoyed their trip to Millars Landing playground and I think their favourite part was the train. The park has enough to keep the kids entertained for a morning or afternoon but just remember to wear shoes!
